PROJECTS

Besides my normal day to day work in DevOPS and Application Support (what we call client tech support) I get charged with projects that usually go into new areas for me and always have short timelines.  I find these challenges fun and always come away learning new things. Here are a few of my latest projects.

Latest Projects

Help Desk - Ticketing System

With a strict time line and budget, following a needs assessment which I researched and wrote,

  • Setup three ticketing system websites.

    • Two where for two separate CAPI projects, one is for our in house CAPI and another is for our CAPI project that we have a partnership with another large research company.

    • One was setup to be used by my App Support staff and by the Client Service staff along with the companies Data production team.

  • Researched and built system using jitbit ticketing system from www.jitbit.com.

  • Manage and support the underlying servers and SQL databases along with the management of the Ticketing Software.

  • Trained my staff to be Tier 2 and 3 support for the CAPI projects and trained the partner company's staff to be Tier 1 and Tier 2 support.

Technology Audit

Starting now, December, our 2020 technology audit with E+Y for our MRC accreditation, A yearly activity that always has my group on its toes. But with smart planning on our part we always come out with a clean bill or valuable insight to improve our systems. Been doing this audit since 2014.

Past Notable Projects

CAPI (Computer Assisted Personal Interview)

$4mm CAPI (Computer Assisted Personal Interview) project with research of devices, emplacement of support staff and remote support tools. Along with working with developers to assess & implement cloud assets for backend data collection and reporting. This project is truly growing in leaps and bounds, as of the end of 2016 have near 200 devices in the field all fully managed and supported.

Enterprise Mobile Device Management System

* Manage 10 Apple iPads
All tablets are used by CAPI interviewers in the field and support is done remotely to support there needs.
Project completed in 1 month. Management is on going with my Support team.

MariaDB and Cassandra noSQL

Was asked to research and learn how to setup a MariaDB SQL environment along with a Cassandra noSQL environment which was based on Datastax Enterprise and connect the MariaDB to the Cassandra noSQL using MariaDB's Cassandra database engine.
Fully built in an Amazon AWS Cloud environment and setup with test tables in both SQL and noSQL to be passed along to developers to use for R&D of new product.
Also, responsible to support the DB systems and underlying Red Hat Linux OS they run on.
As of first quarter of 2017, we have development clusters up and running with a goal to go live within 12 month with new applications using the database architecture and new customer API's in place to allow clients to build their own application using our infrastructure.

Tableau Server - Research and Setup

  • Part of the team that researched different reporting platforms to be used as our UI and reporting dashboard tool for a new multi-million dollar product.

    • Team narrowed field of competitors and selected Tableau.

  • Balancing budget to product needs, architected and built a complete Tableau Server website inside an AWS cloud environment and came in at Managing Directors set budget.

  • Charged with maintaining backend systems and Tableau updates along with customer Application Support of the new product.

  • In the end the company did not build the system that would have utilized Tableau, this was mostly do to the person who was championing the project leaving the company. However the experience was fun, would have loved to have seen it come to be.
